I want to rant! I just want to rant about Nigerian songs. Why is it that for the last 4 years now, the life span of Nigerian songs is just 3 months? Even hit songs sef na 3 months. I have come to notice that any hit song released, within the 3  months it’s been played, becoming a giant in clubs and Nigerian airwaves. Before you know what is happening, the popularity would start diminishing and the song dies. So why is it that Nigerian hit songs doesn’t last for more than 3 months.

No Nigerian hit song last more than 3 months on the airwaves before it fades away. It wasn’t like this back then. Even when 2face and other stars released hit songs between 2001, 2004, 2005, the songs of that time were mega hits till even 2006 and 2007. But what do we have now? In the last 3-4 years, no Naija hit song dey last for up to 3 months and the airwaves.

‘Now look at this,’ Runtown released a hit song, “Mad over you” late last year. This song is one of the biggest songs for the past three months. Go to clubs, parties, events, radio stations and others, people are requesting for “mad over you.” We love the song.

But guess what? Have you noticed that since Davido released his song “If” in February, for the past two weeks now, Davido’s song “If” is gradually gaining grounds. “If” is gradually displacing “mad over you” and becoming popular. Don’t be surprised in the month of May you won’t be hearing much of “Mad over you.”  Na if go be the reigning song by then.

So I just dey rant. I dey vex. All those hit songs of 2016, how many people still dey hear am. We don’t listen to them as such. It just looked as if Nigerian songs don’t have value. It doesn’t last long just like some chinko products.

So what is actually the problem? Why is it that Nigerian songs released doesn’t last long on the airwaves before its popularity slides down. What could be the cause of it? And what are solutions?
